Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle (EKV)

The Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle (EKV) is the critical intercept component of the Ground Based Interceptor (GBI) the weapon element of the Missile Defense Agency’s Ground-based Missile Defense (GMD) system. The EKV is designed to engage and destroy high-speed ballistic missile warheads in the midcourse phase of flight with hit-to-kill (upon force of impact) precision.

Aerojet Rocketdyne provides the liquid propulsion Divert and Attitude Control System (DACS) that maneuvers the EKV to the appropriate altitude and closing velocity required to destroy the incoming target.
