Electronics Engineering

The Electronics team creates electronic system product designs that meet or exceed customer performance requirements in the most demanding environments. We use a process-driven approach that focuses on early objective evidence of performance. In addition, we work closely with the Mechanical, Thermal and Structural groups to provide precise analysis and rapid design adjustments. The resulting designs are effective, reliable and they achieve requirement margins.

Design Products Include:

  • Electronics hardware for mission applications
  • Electronic test and simulation systems for development and verification

The Electronics team objective is to establish ourselves as innovators by looking forward to define and mature design concepts that can be readily applied to meet customer functional and performance demands.

Mission Electronics Design and Development

The Electronics Hardware design team is responsible for all elements of the flight or deployed avionics that comprise the product weapon systems. This includes controllers, actuators, sensors, and electrical power components. Our design engineers have successfully developed both distributed and integrated architectures for closed loop feedback control systems.  Electrical hardware elements have passed functional environment qualifications and full weapon system flight tests. These successes are a direct result of modeling and prototyping methods which we use to attain evidence of design compliance early in the development cycle.

Our team implements control system design by maintaining a high level of analog design and analysis capability while infusing digital efficiencies, such as FPGA technology, to reduce part count and complexity.  Using the Altium schematic capture and PCB Layout tool, we continue to build experience for high speed, high layer count, and high power electronics product design using complex form factors.   Analysis tools such as HyperLynx SI and TimingDesigner allow for early assessment of PCB design performance.  Our senior engineers are IPC certified so that the same high level of engineering expertise can be applied to electronic component manufacturing.

Test System Development

The Test System design team has completed electronic engineering designs for individual test components and complete test systems. These test products support prototype testing, avionics system level testing and full product level testing for development. Our test systems can be custom designed or use the LabView development environment. Our delivered products support internal acceptance testing and are used in customer computer-in-the-loop (CIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and other system test facilities.

Electronics Laboratory

Electronics system development is supported by the Electronics Laboratory.  This is an engineering development resource, whose primary functions are to fabricate and assemble prototype components and systems for concept assessment and evaluation; and to provide test capability dedicated to electronic diagnostics. The Electronics Laboratory is staffed with permanently assigned electronic/engineering technicians who are NASA certified for soldering (8739.3) and crimping (8739.4) operations. The Electronics Laboratory is an active ESD Control (ANSI/ESD-S20.20) and FOD Awareness area.
