The current name derives from the California Gold Rush of the mid-19th century when prospectors discovered coarse nuggets of gold in a nearby creek. At one time, several dozen gold mines operated in the area. In the vicinity of Yosemite Lakes Park; is an unincorporated community in Madera County, CA. It lies at an elevation of 1230 feet. As a census-designated place (CDP) it is known as Yosemite Lakes.
